Overview of Responsibilities
Joppa House Ministries (JHM) Executive Director (ED) is responsible for enhancing the quality of life in a faith-based sober living community for women and their children by overseeing all facets of the organization. This role is crucial in providing a safe and effective environment for women in recovery. The ED provides oversight for all daily operations including staff leadership, program development, financial management, regulatory compliance, marketing and community engagement. The ED provides strategic vision for future sustainability. The ED ensures compliance with required sober living regulations. ED supports residents and their children throughout the recovery process by creating and modeling a healthy environment that promotes and drives a goal of life-long sobriety through physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Strategic Leadership
- Implement and adhere to the mission, vision, and values of JHM with a sense of passion and clarity rooted in the Christian faith
- Develop and implement JHM policies, procedures and long-term strategic plans in consultation with the Board of Directors
- Build, foster and maintain relationship with key stakeholders
- Foster a healthy, hospitable and healing environment that provides for the well-being of staff as well as residents
- Inspires a vision for sobriety and wellness
Resource Development & Fundraising
- Lead all fundraising initiatives including donor cultivation, retention, events, and campaigns.
- Secures funding through grants and donors
- Grow JHM’s base of financial support by building collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including individuals, churches, and businesses.
- Lead grant research, writing, and reporting.
Financial Management
- Manage financial performance including the development and administration of the annual budget
- Monitor overall fiscal health of the organization
- Develop and track identified performance metrics and report regularly to the Board to ensure the organization is fulfilling its mission and meeting identified performance goals.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the Board, regulatory bodies and grant providers
Organizational Management & Staff Leadership
- Hire, supervise, and develop staff to fulfill the mission and meet strategic objectives.
- Actively engage with the programs, intake, and client care coordination to ensure JHM objectives are met
- Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and healing with the staff, volunteers and women in recovery
- Provide mentorship and professional engagement for staff in order to ensure retention, support and continual growth of staff
- Ensure HR practices, including training, recruitment, performance evaluation, compliance and termination, if warranted, are well defined and adhered to.
- Monitor and improve organizational policies, systems, and structures.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Working knowledge of regulatory requirements
- Develop and implement quality assurance measures including identified metrics
- Conduct regular assessments to assure quality and safety
- Assure that compliance is met with certifying bodies such as NARR and MARR
- Oversight for annual compliance evaluations
Community Engagement
- Represent JHM in a professional manner in community settings and events
- Build partnerships with local health services and organizations
- Promote awareness of sober living and recovery resources through personal and media presence
Program Management and Oversight
- Design, implement and evaluate a recovery program that aligns with the JH Mission and industry best practice
- Collaborate with community partners, organizations and stakeholders
- Ensure that the recovery pathway including the essential faith-based elements meets the needs and expectations of residents
- Develop and capture key metrics to evaluate program outcomes and effectiveness

Business and Fundraising Acumen: Brings strong business knowledge and management skills. Able to generate and increase financial support through diverse donor and community engagement. Ability to grow revenue streams. Ability to manage budgets and resources.
Emotional and Spiritual Maturity: Leads with emotional intelligence and compassion. Ability to listen actively and communicate clearly. Able to make difficult decisions related to staff/residents when non-compliance is demonstrated and/or apparent. Ability to lead a faith-based ministry while still creating an environment that is open, hospitable and non-judgmental to women from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Understands the importance and impact of faith as part of the recovery journey.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Level Degree from an accredited college/university in social services, nonprofit management, business, finance
- Working knowledge of recovery programs and trauma-informed care
- 5 years of experience in mission-aligned organizations and/or experience in a recovery setting
- Demonstrated success in financial management, grant-writing, and/or fundraising
- Foundational knowledge of Christian theology or spirituality and/or faith formation
- Embraces Christian Values in personal and professional life
- Proven ability to lead teams, programs, and systems
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing with key stakeholders which include the Board of Directors, Community Partners, Donors, Staff, Residents, and Volunteers
- Maintains appropriate professional boundaries
- Commitment to personal wellness
- MARR certified at time of hire or within 3 months of hire
- Keeps current by completing 25 hours of continuing education/year in order to improve skills and knowledge related to social services, peer recovery, addictions, trauma-informed care, health and wellness, ministry and/or Bible Studies.
